HSE warning after incident at road works leaves motorcyclist in intensive care

HSE has warned employers to maintain safe systems of working at road works, after a road traffic collision left a motorcyclist in intensive care.

Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services Ltd of Ashwood Park, Basingstoke, were fined £15,000 and ordered to pay costs of £31,139.30, at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday 18 September after pleading guilty to a breach of Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.

Company fined after worker suffers fatal injuries after being run over at work

HSE is urging companies to ensure that sufficient safety procedures and risk assessments are in place to properly protect staff.

The call comes after the prosecution today (29 July) of John Stacey and Sons Ltd at Winchester Crown Court. The prosecution follows an incident at the company’s Tadley site on 1 June 2007. An employee, Frederick Aubrey, was run over and died five days later from his injuries.

Company fined after worker dies on Barking building site

HSE is urging employers to ensure proper safety procedures are in place to make certain staff are kept safe when working on construction sites.

The call follows the prosecution of Bouygues (UK) Ltd today at Snaresbrook Crown Court, after an employee was struck by a reversing vehicle as he crossed a one-way vehicular traffic route within a construction site. The worker died at the scene.
