Slip and trip workshops for NHS staff

During the period 2004 - 2007, HSE carried out a targeted initiative to reduce slips and trips accidents in NHS Trusts. A key element of the initiative was a one-day Slips and Trips Workshop, customised for the healthcare sector, and delivered regionally in 23 locations around the UK.

Assessment of slips safety information/literature provided by flooring and footwear suppliers

Nearly 11,000 workers suffered serious injury as a result of a slip or trip in 2007. A key element of HSE’s work to reduce slips and trips is to raise awareness of how slip risks can be controlled through the use of suitable flooring and footwear.

Requirements for slip-resistant floor finishes in the Workplace

This circular provides advice to HSE and Local Authority (LA) inspectors on the application of regulations 12(1), (2) and (3) of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 to the prevention of slips incidents, particularly through the installation of slip-resistant floor finishes.

Footwear - new updated testing table

A new footwear samples table update to the report ‘HSL/2007/33 Further slip-resistance testing of footwear for use at work’ is now available for download.

The ongoing programme of testing has generated results for a further 20 footwear samples. Six of these are new in this most recent update.

Museum staff watch their step whilst preparing to open to public
