Interserve (Defence) Ltd, of Waterloo Road, London, appeared at Oxford Crown Court today (8 September 2010) following an investigation by HSE. It was fined £33,000 and ordered to pay costs of £17,936.

Whilst criminal proceedings cannot be taken against the Crown, administrative procedures, known as Crown censures, are used in circumstances where it is HSE’s opinion that, but for Crown immunity, there would have been sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction in the courts.
