Proactive approach to workplace transport safety in new build

One Local Authority’s Environmental Health Commercial Team (EHCT) became aware of a proposed new, 1 million square ft warehouse project submitted to their Planning Department by a national supermarket chain. There was some concern over the design of the proposed delivery operations at the site; the EHO felt there was inadequate segregation between pedestrians and vehicles in the delivery area and there was a lack of safe pedestrian walkways around the site.

The health and safety law poster

As from 6 April 2009, HSE is publishing new versions of its approved health and safety poster and leaflet. To avoid an unnecessary burden on business, HSE has set a five year transition period. The current poster and leaflets must be replaced by the new versions by no later than 5 April 2014.

HSE calls for safer working for removal and haulage firms

HSE calls on employers in the removals and haulage business to ensure proper training and safe systems of work are in place, even for routine tasks. The message follows an incident in Louth, Lincolnshire in which a worker was crushed between a 17-tonne removals van and a brick wall.
