It follows the sentencing today (28 October) of  a landlord from Addingham, Ilkley, who was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £1,500 costs for breaching Regulation 36(3) of the Gas Safety (Installations and Use) Regulations 1998 and of contravening a previous improvement notice.

It applies to establishments consisting of a single depleted reservoir, import and export process plant and interconnecting pipework (i.e. the pipeline(s) within the COMAH establishment that connect the depleted reservoir and the process plant).

In May 2004 a gas leak from a corroded buried pipe led to an accumulation of gas in the basement of a Glasgow plastics factory. This resulted in an explosion which caused the building to collapse - nine people were killed and 33 were injured, some critically.
