This consultation seeks views on the HSE’s proposals to remove fourteen legislative measures (one Act, twelve Regulations and one Order and with a related provision in the Factories Act 1961) and to withdraw approval for an associated Approved Code of Practice. Still time to have your say, consultation ends 4 July 2012.

Event safety website launched

Following the success of HS(G)195 ‘The event safety guide – a guide to health, safety and welfare at music and similar events’, HSE has launched a new event safety micro-site. This new website contains updated health and safety guidance aimed at helping event organisers comply with their legal duties. Designed to be a ‘portal’ for information, the new site also provides convenient links to guidance on other event related matters including event licensing.

Leisure park worker trapped in trench collapse

Work at height and use of tallescopes in theatres

Since the ABTT withdrew its Code of Practice in view of the HSE’s concerns , much work has been carried out by the theatre industry, not only on Tallescopes but also on other methods for working at height in theatres. Involved parties were the Theatrical Management Association (TMA), The Federation of Scottish Theatre (FST), the Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT), the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), the manufacturer of the Tallescope, Aluminium Access Products (AAP) and a number of other theatre organisations from Scotland and Wales. HSE were also involved.

HSE responds to Westmorland Gazette article “It’s just a sign of the times…”

The newspaper reported that walkers and runners had branded newly-erected warning signs on paths leading to a popular viewpoint as ‘ridiculous’. The signs warned of uneven ground and a steep slope. Mark Dawson, HSE Principal Inspector for Cumbria responds.
