The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is to become the sole regulator for all safety issues associated with electricity transmission and distribution, following transfer of part of the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI) Engineering Inspectorate.
The HSE welcomes the launch of an initiative by the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) and the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA), which helps member contractors meet health and safety competences.
The free leaflet ‘Core Criteria for assessing Contractor Safety’, was developed by the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) and the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA). It includes HSE’s criteria outlining what contractors should be doing to satisfy their clients’ requirements.
This leaflet covers the safe working practices to be followed by those working specifically for and on behalf of Network Operators (NOs) undertaking routine and emergency tree-work operations near energised and de-energised overhead power lines.
Following an application by the licensee, Magnox Electric Limited, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has granted consent for a decommissioning project at Dungeness A power station in Kent.
