This consultation seeks views on HSE’s proposals for replacing the 2001 Order and 2011 Variation Order with a new 2013 Order. The new order will – Provide legal clarity for duty holders that HSE has the power to regulate activities associated with new emerging energy technologies (EET), ensure statutory protection currently provided in 2001 Order and 2011 Variation Order is maintained and simplify the new order. This consultation ends 4 July 2012.

CD239 – Proposals to remove fourteen legislative measures

This consultation seeks views on HSE’s proposals to remove fourteen legislative measures covering Celluloid and Cinematograph Film, Construction Head Protection, Notification of Conventional Tower Cranes, Notification of Installations Handling Hazardous Substances, Gasholders (Record of Examinations) Order, Docks, Shipbuilding and Ship-repairing and Metrication. The consultation began on 3 April 2012 and ends 4 July 2012.

Asbestos – New regulations come into force

The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 came into force on 6 April 2012, in practice the changes are fairly limited. They mean that some types of non-licensed work with asbestos now have additional requirements, i.e. notification of work, medical surveillance and record keeping. All other requirements remain unchanged.

This Consultation Document sets out HSE’s proposals to replace the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 (Application outside Great Britain) Order 2001 (the 2001 Order), with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 (Application outside Great Britain) Order 2013 (the 2013 Order). This will ensure that all workers offshore are adequately protected by law and HSE maintains its authority to regulate offshore.
Responses to this consultation must be received by 4 July 2012.

Injury reporting change cuts paperwork by a third

A change to the rules on reporting workplace injuries will save British firms thousands of hours completing official paperwork.
From 6 April, employers will no longer have to report injuries which keep workers off normal duties for seven or fewer days.

RIDDOR reporting – Changes to injury classifications

From 6 April 2012, subject to Parliamentary approval, RIDDOR’s over three day injury reporting requirement will change. From then the trigger point will increase from over three days’ to over seven days’ incapacitation (not counting the day on which the accident happened)
