Construction managers warned to control risks of working at height

HSE has warned employers and senior managers that they must control the risks of working at height in the workplace. The warning follows the prosecution of the manager of a construction company after an incident led to an employee at a site in Mansfield suffering severe injuries and for failing to control the risks from falls from height at another site in Wollaton.

Worker fatality at Northampton refurbishment site

HSE is urging employers to ensure they have adequate safety measures in place to protect staff working at height. This follows an incident at a Northampton warehouse when a refurbishment worker died after falling seven metres from a tower scaffold.

Keeping East Lothian blooming safe

The “North Berwick in Bloom” Committee has been busily putting the finishing touches to the East Lothian town ready for the “Britain in Bloom” competition. Good practice has been adopted by the council’s horticultural workers who have been helping to feed and water some of the town’s beautiful flower arrangements from ground level with the aid of a specialist long reach extendable lance, avoiding the use of ladders.

Petersfield company fined for ignoring worker’s safety

HSE is urging companies to assess the risks to their employees from exposure to vibration, after a Hampshire company was fined £10,500 for ignoring the safety of a worker.
