Following a tanker loading operation a UAN transfer pump was inadvertently left running. The transfer pump continued to run for several hours until an explosion occurred.

The warning follows HSE’s prosecution of a Manchester company after a maintenance engineer lost the tip of his finger.

HSE announced that throughout February it aims to inspect 1000 refurbishment sites across Great Britain, to tackle poor safety standards.
