Horizon scanning report SR015. Rapid Manufacturing (RM) has been described as “An Industrial Revolution for the Digital Age”. Also referred to as “Direct Digital Manufacturing”, it uses additive fabrication processes which use a variety of technologies such as selective laser sintering, stereo-lithography, fused deposition modelling, direct metal sintering/deposition and 3D printing to construct parts that are used directly as finished products or components.
