New nuclear reactors - pre-licensing of new designs

HSE has been asked to prepare regulatory guidance for potential providers of nuclear power stations, and is currently working with other regulators and a range of other stakeholders with a view to publishing this by January 2007. One issue being considered is the extent to which designs for nuclear power stations can be assessed before a site-specific licence application is made.  These web pages describe work which is being done by HSE in order to be ready to start work on design assessment, should it be asked to.
