Back, neck and limb disorders are the most common types of ill health in agriculture. Many of these disorders are related to manual handling tasks. This leaflet describes the causes of manual handling health problems, explains how to assess the risk, outlines steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of injury and preparations that can be taken to ensure manual handling tasks are completed safely. Good handling techniques, suitable training and sensible solutions to common manual handling problems such as bale handling and sheep shearing are also discussed.
